Makamae ‘Precious’ Assortment – Pincushions and Orchids
Pincushions and orchids make a truly ‘precious’ tropical assortment.
A stunning variety of colors and textures. Maui pincushion protea join Big Island dendrobium orchids for a full and fascinating display. We add broad monstera leaf and variegated long hala leaf for a balanced Hawaiian flower assortment.
Pincushion protea are a favorite from the island of Maui. Pincushions are in season from November to May. Other times we will substitute an exotic ginger or similar flower. Pincusions are orange or yellow. Their name comes from the shape of the flower. It is covered with soft spikes. They often have a light, natural fragrance. Protea have a woody stem. Protea grow on a broad bushy plant.
Our pins are joined by lovely Hawaii Island dendrobium orchids. We use a mix of colors in white, lavender and purple. Dendrobium orchids are smaller blooms than the large pincushions. This gives some variety to your display.
Greenery is used to balance and fill this Hawaiian flower arrangement. Monstera are a wide hand shaped leaf. Yellow and green hala leaves highlight the yellow of the pincushions. Hala are a long leaf about two inches wide. Try a vee-shaped chevron cut at the tip of the leaf for added interest.
Like most Hawaiian flowers this assortment will last a long time compared to other flowers.
Pincushion protea may be out of season during the summer months. In those cases we will substitute a comparable flower that is appropriate for this assortment.
